How I Want to Spend Summer Holiday in Yogyakarta (And So Do You!)

Selamat malam!

Good night!

Yey!

Finally, I have chance to write on this blog. I kinda confused what I can write on this blog because I have decided to write about make up and ehem life story on another blog. But, finally I have an ideal and time so I thought I’d like to write about traveling, specifically about summer holiday. Yeay!

Honestly, I have dreamed about writing in English in order to help promoting Yogyakarta. But I dont know why that dream disappear just like that. Fortunately, I have right timing now. That’s why, I wanna write in both English and Bahasa.

As far as I know, Yogyakarta is still one of favorite place for both local and international tourist in Indonesia. No wonder, Jogja has complete package as city tours. It has culture tours, nature tours, and culinary tours. Well, at least for me, they are complete package. As someone who has been in Yogyakarta for about 4 years, I wanna recommend some of nature, culture, and culinary tours location. Some places that I list, I’ve been there, but not all of them. Hopefully I can spend my holiday there next time, so do you. Here we go:

WISATA ALAM:

                NATURE TOURS:

  1. Semua pantai di Gunung Kidul (All beaches in Gunung Kidul)
Pantai Pok Tunggal
Pok Tunggal Beach

Oh iya, khusus Pantai Greweng, kita perlu tracking sekitar 1 kilometer. Kayaknya sih deket ya, tapi kalau jalan kaki beneran, rasanya kaki sampe mau patah. Tapi di situ asyiknya.

Pantai Greweng
Greweng Beach

Seriously, I can’t choose what to be included on the list because Gunung Kidul has such beautiful beaches! I have gone to Greweng, Wediombo, Jungwok, and Pok Tunggal Beaches and all of them have their own charm. The best things of Gunung Kidul Beaches are they all have clear white sand, full of coral, and no signal available! BUT, the transportation access to go there is pretty difficult indeed, moreover for overseas tourist. The easiest way is renting car and tour guide all at once because all of Gunung Kidul Beaches ‘virginity’ are highly protected, if you dont have guide I’m worry there will be no one to ask. Greweng Beach in particular, we need to track by walking ourself for about 1 kilometer. It sounds close enough, but if you walk for real, it will feel like you feet are broken. But it’s the fun thing tho.

Pantai Wediombo
Wediombo Beach

BONUS:

Since Running Man will go to Timang Beach I want to go there as well sooooooo bad!

  1. Semua air terjun di Gunung Kidul (All of waterfall in Gunung Kidul)

For this one, I can’t say a lot because honestly I havent been there. But believe me, Gunung Kidul has amazing and beautiful tourism potential, so the waterfall will be as great as the beaches.

  1. Cangkringan, Kaki Gunung Merapi

Frankly to speak, eventhough I have studied in Jogja since 2013, the last time I went to Cangkringan is in 2010. That time, Merapi Volcano have had erupted not long ago, that’s why Merapi Volcano foot are ‘clear’ from trees. Even there were burnt tress back then. This is beautiful yet scary place to visit.

  1. Gua Pindul, Gunung Kidul

I’ve never been there, but based on friends experience, Gua Pindul (Pindul Cave) is fun place to visit, especially with friends or family. Here we’ll trace the cave by rubber tire. This place also has amazing view as well.

  1. Dlingo, Bantul
Hutan Pinus Mangunan
Pine Forest Mangunan

Flying Fox in Seribu Batu, Dlingo (Hobbit House)

Here some tours place available. They are Hutan Pinus Mangunan (Pine Forest ‘Mangunan’), Hobbit House, and Fruit Garden ‘Mangunan’. In Hutan Pinus Mangunan, you’ll find beautiful flowers if you come in right time. In Hobbit House, you can play flying fox (which is I LOVE), while in Fruit Garden Mangunan you can see nature view from height.

WISATA BUDAYA:

CULTURE TOURS:

  1. Jalan Malioboro, Pasar Beringharjo & Benteng Vredeburg
Malioboro Street (pic credit: bakpiajogja.id)

What’s the meaning of visiting Jogja without going to Malioboro Street? As long as this street, you can see row of shops that sell everything that represent Jogja such as batik, gift, and another things. The price is good enough, especially if you have bargain skill lol. Now walking in Malioboro Streets will be more comfortable since motorcycle parking place has been moved. And Benteng Vredeburg (Vredeburg Bastion) is museum that has historical diorama of Indonesia. It placed on tip of Malioboro Street.

  1. Candi Prambanan & Candi Borobudur

Borobudur Temple

Prambanan Temple located quite far away from central of the city. This is the biggest Hindu Temple in Indonesia, built in 9th century. If you’re willing to go to Prambanan, it’ll be more fun to do picnic thing. Bring the mat and foods, eat them together with your family or friends. Dont forget to wear hat because it must be hot! While Borobudur Temple, it’s actually located in Magelang, Central Java, but it’s still reachable from Jogja. Borobudur Temple is Buddha Temple that is a loooooooot more wide than Prambanan. Borobudur Temple was one of 7 Wonders of The World. If you are already in Jogja, there’s no reason to not go to Borobudur Temple.

  1. Museum Ulen Sentalu

This museum is located closer to my place, hehe. It is in Pakem, Sleman. It is art and culture museum of Javanese in Mataram era (Mataram is one of Javanese Kingdom).

WISATA KULINER:

CULINARY TOURS:

  1. The House of Raminten
The House of Raminten (pic credit: latitudes.nu)

Enak banget!

Raminten is probably the most famous place amongs international tourist. I think the reasons are, it serves Indonesian food, the atmosphere are so ‘Jogja’, the restaurant and parking place is big enough and there are gifts that you can buy as well. My favorite drink here is Red Bean Ice. It’s so tasty!!

  1. Warung Makan Bu Ageng
Warung Bu Ageng (pic credit: andikaawan.blogspot.com)

Actually, I recommend this restaurant more than Raminten. But I live in Kaliurang Street KM 14 so this place is soooooooo far from here. I’ve visit Warung Bu Ageng for 3 or 4 times, and Oh My God I didn’t regret anything AT ALL eventhough the price is ‘tourist standart’ *cry*. My favorite menu here is Eyam Panggang (Roasted Chicken). It taste B-E-S-T! You cant imagine how the flavor tastes, it is THAT GREAT! Order Aloe Vera Ice as well which is my favorite drink here so it will be complete! The location itself is strategic which is Prawirotaman, tourist favorite place.

  1. Lumpia Hotel Mutiara
Lumpia!

Tapi emang rasanya enak banget sih. Harganya juga masuk akal. Walaupun kamu belum tau apa itu Lumpia, udah cobain aja! Enggak akan nyesel sama sekali.

I’ve been here once because I can’t stand the queue. But I can’t deny the taste is soooo good. The price is reasonable as well. Eventhough you dont know about Lumpia yet, please just try it! You wont regret it.

  1. Seafood di Pantai Depok
pic credit: kuliner.panduanwisata.id

Depok Beach is Located in Bantul. It has differences with Gunung Kidul beaches. Beaches in Bantul don’t have clear-white sand and they have no coral as well. But if you want to eat fresh seafood, you can go to Depok Beach. We can choose the seafoods by ourself, then eat them in beach directly ( I mean after it cooked of course lol)

  1. Tempo Gelato
Tempo Gelato! (pic credit: jdfoodiary.blogspot.co.id)

Snack lagi! Kali ini gelato. Tempo Gelato enggak pernah sepi setiap hari.

It’s snack again! This time is gelato. Tempo Gelato never be lack of customers everyday. This place also usually be visited by international tourist. The gelato itself is huge, tasty, and the place is so comfortable. To talk, doing task, or taking photos is also comfortable.

  1. Jank Jank Wings

Actually, Jank Jank Wings is not Indonesian type restaurant. But it serves delicious and cheap chicken so I’ll recommend it. My friend from Jakarta and I went there once and she was so pleased because it costed sooo affordable yet still tasty.

  1. Jejamuran
Mushroom Display in Jejamuran

This restaurant has kinda difficult location, but believe me, you wont regret coming here. Jejamuran means all about mushroom, that’s why this restaurant only serves mushroom. But calm down, the mushroom that cooked are tasty, so you wont get bored. The service is fast and great, it has wide place as well. Even, the parking place probably as wide as the restaurant. Those who come here arent only motorcycle or car anymore, but also bus! In the holiday time, I once came here with my friends and guess what, I got queue number 50 LOOOOL -_-

  1. Chatime
Red Bean Pearl Milk Tea!!

Yang ini malah ala-ala Milk Tea. Tapi berhubung aku tergila-gila sama Chatime, jadi enggak apa-apa ya kumasukkan ke list. Menu favoritku di sini adalah Red Bean Pearl Milk Tea. Lagi-lagi kacang merah. Makanya aku suka banget Chatime!

This one even kinda of Milk-Tea-Thing. But since I loveeee Chatime that much, so it’s okay I include it here, right? My favorite menu here is Red Bean Pearl Milk Tea. Once again, read bean. Yess, I love red bean. Here, the toppings given a looot and the milk tea itself is quite thick. That’s why I love Chatime!

Finallyyyyyy, I finish writing the list. If I write all the place I love in Jogja, probably it will be tens part. So they are my swag tours place list. Ah, since I write this in 2 languages (which means I hope it will be read by international reader who is willing to visit Jogja), I’ll recommend hotel and transportation mode as well. Even for domestic tourist, they still need hotel, don’t they?

Ada beberapa opsi nih berdasarkan lokasinya:

There are some options based on location:

  1. Reddoorz Prawirotaman

Biayanya hanya sekitar 180 ribu-an per malam. Murah banget!

This hotel actually isn’t hotel, but guest house, so it will be more comfortable for family. The location is pretty near from Warung Bu Ageng. It has complete facilities such as wifi, TV, car parking place, guest room, AC & non-AC rooms, kitchen, and other facilities. It only costs around IDR 180.000 (around 16$) for each night. It’s so affordable!

  1. Reddoorz Malioboro

For this one, it’s quite obvious. It’s for you who don’t want to be far from Malioboro. Its facilities and the price ain’t that different with the Prawirotaman one.

For another locations, you can check them out on their website here. Besides, you can also check their Reddoorz blog to another tours place recommendation. Useful tips for traveler also available there. For example, tips to save smartphone battery during holiday.

And for the transportation mode, I suggest you to rent a car if you want to go to Gunung Kidul, Cangkringan, or Bantul, it is a lot easier. But if you intend to go around central of city, then you can rely on taxi, either conventional one or online. Or perhaps you want to rent motorcycle?

Semoga bermanfaat ya! Selamat berlibur ke Jogja!

I hope this will be useful! Happy vacation to Jogja!
